83. Devotion to Christ's heart is essential for our Christian life to the extent that it expresses our openness in faith and adoration to the mystery of the Lord's divine and human love. In this sense, we can once more affirm that the Sacred Heart is a synthesis of the Gospel.

The Story of the Catholic Community in Kampar

The Church of the Sacred Heart, Kampar has a rich history dating back to 1908. It began as a small plank chapel built by Rev. Fr. G. Cheveuche. The church community faced the challenge of relocating and rebuilding the church several times due to mining activities and the growing congregation's needs. Despite these obstacles, the Church of the Sacred Heart remained a cornerstone for the Catholic community in Kampar, providing spiritual guidance and a place of worship for generations.

In its early years, the church served as an outstation of the Church of St. Joseph in Batu Gajah. The first concrete church building was completed in 1925, but it was later demolished in 1934 to make way for tin mining. The mining company compensated the church with a new building on a hillock along the North-South Highway, which stands today. The church has witnessed numerous dedicated priests who served the community throughout the years.
